Camping
at East Sidney Lake
July 7th - 9th, 2000
(Friday-Sunday) |
Yay!
We made it (after a scenic three hour ride...) to East Sidney Lake,
a place where one can relax, gather their thoughts, barbecue, go fishing,
swim, camp, set up a campfire, roast marshmallows, get drunk, pitch a
tent, clean dishes, get dirty, shower in freezing cold water, with
god-awful smelling bathrooms, get bitten by mosquitoes, latched onto by
ticks, freeze your ass off at night...You get the picture...God, I love
camping... |
This
is a picture (boring) of the actual dam itself, which impounds the water
to form East Sidney Lake ( I had to put this one in cause Lis took the
picture and thought it would be interesting...yawn).
Now,
THIS picture's cool cause I'M in it...See me?...There, at the top?...I'm
waving to you..."Hi!"
Hey,
well, since I'm up here, might as well take a picture...Here's a lovely
shot from the top of the dam.
Ok...now
the "Before & After" pictures...here's the tent site
before...
...and
after! Yes, I had to be in the after picture cause I set everything
up...Melissa did just what she was doing in the picture above: posing.
(Nah, I'm kidding, she actually DID help a bit...)
This
is the other side of our campsite, the "kitchen", before...
...and
after! Ok, not much of a difference, but I did set up the stove and bring
down the equipment before the before pic was taken...
...and
we brought my boat along...a Trackertm
Pro Tournament 18 Bass Tracker with a 40hp Mercury engine, tilt/trim, 5
storage compartments, rod locker, livewell, MotorGuidetm
Trolling Motor (40 lbs. of
thrust, I think...), two Hummingbird Depth/Fish finders, steering wheel
console, seating for three, and a large, comfortable front deck. A great
man once said, "A bad day fishing is better than a good day at
work!"; well, I don't know if he was a great man, probably just some
guy at an ad company or t-shirt manufacturer, but it is a great
statement...
Melissa,
with the first fish of the day, (yes, she got one before me) a nice
1 lb. 5 oz. (I think)...
Same
fish, different picture...
Here
I am with a 1 lb.14 oz.'er (yep, I got the second one of the day, but it
was bigger...I'm the man)...
Nice
smallmouth, fat bastard was eating all day (the fish, not Melissa)...
Jeez,
Lis, throw him back already...
Smallie,
didn't weigh him or measure him, but he put up a hell of a fight...
These
dogs (three old, black Labrador Retrievers) were out taking a dip in the
lake. They were apparently from a house up on a huge hill on the lake, but
their owner was nowhere to be found. They were very playful and actually tried
to climb into the boat with us!
They
were so playful that we saw them playing with the resident of a small dam
that was constructed at the mouth of a small stream feeding the lake: a huge
beaver! Yep, they were playing with a friggin' beaver! They apparently took
a liking to a stick the beaver was carrying and they were playing on the
shore with it. It looks as thought the beaver was really old too, so they
probably all know each other since they were youngsters...
Another
cool shot of the lake from the road near the dam...
...and finally, a shot I took in the early morning haze, when the sun first
rose up...
