| In recent years, the
buoyancy compensator market has discovered diversification and
specialization. Divers can now choose from a dazzling array of
travel BCs, technical BCs, tropical BCs, female-specific BCs, hard
packs, soft packs, backpack-style harnesses and modular BC
systems.
Meanwhile, a significant portion of
the diving public needs and wants nothing more than a good
all-around BC that offers comfort, support and durability. This is
the market Beuchat is going after with its new Master Lift
Evolution BC.
Evolution is a good name for the
product. Rather than revolutionary new trends, the designers have
incorporated evolutionary improvements onto a proven style of
general-purpose BC. The jacket is constructed from rugged
840-denier nylon, with an air cell that allows 360-degree
circulation around the tank and divides buoyancy between back and
waist areas.
A traditional hard backplate is
made more comfortable by an adjustable lumbar support bar, and the
contoured tank plate and stainless-steel cam provide complete tank
security and stability.
The depth-compensating cummer strap
and plush back padding provide secure support both on the surface
and in the water, while the quick-release shoulder straps allow
for changes in exposure-suit thickness and make entry and exits
safer and easier.
The Evolution has sufficient lift
for cold-water diving, and the integrated weight release system is
especially well designed for use with gloves. The jacket expands
away from the diver when inflated, and the deep side pockets are
easy to reach, even when the BC is filled.
Standard features include four
stainless-steel D rings, three pull-dump ports, an integrated
weight system and a compact inflator hose that tabs to the
shoulder by means of a hook-and-loop fabric pad.
In short, it's a well-designed,
general-purpose BC that will take you from the ice to the tropics.
