Honeymoon - Honolulu, O'ahu, HI
Week One: April 29-May 6, 2002

If you're viewing this page with a 56k modem, it's gonna take you a day or two (or 915 seconds, whichever comes first) to download the entire page, so go get a beer, watch a little of the game on TV, and check back later after starting to download it...

04/29/02 Monday
Melissa, getting all tucked in for our 10 hour, 50 minute flight aboard Continental Flight 15, from Newark, NJ to Honolulu, O'ahu, HI. No, she isn't wearing any makeup...

Here I am, getting all tucked in for our 10 hour, 50 minute flight aboard Continental Flight 15, from Newark, NJ to Honolulu, HI. No, I'm not wearing any makeup (although I could probably use some)...

On the plane we were seated in seats A and B in row 22...

Coincidentally, right next to us were seats D, E and F; when sequenced backwards are the first three letters of Lis' now maiden name, "FEDUS"...I dunno, WE found it amusing...

Here's a self-portrait of the newlyweds. No, that's not a booger in my nose, and yes, Lis IS wearing makeup now...

Our first sighting of Hawaii over the port side wing of the plane! Yay, we're here! This is actually a view of the North Eastern shore of Moloka'i, the island just east of O'ahu...

Our first week in Hawaii, we stayed in Honolulu, on the Island of O'ahu, in the area known as Waikiki Beach (I know, it's a pain in the ass all these friggin' names...), represented by the red circle to the left.

We stayed at The Imperial of Waikiki hotel, located conveniently in the heart of Waikiki at 205 Lewers Street. While not right on the beach, it was a short 100 yard stroll from it.

Trying to get settled in after the looooooong flight (can you see it in my face?)...gotta get my priorities straight: first, set up the laptop...

A view from the left side of our balcony of a lovely building down the street...

The view from the right side of our balcony, a view of Waikiki Beach...

After settling in, we were able to make it out to the Red Lion, a bar right across the street from our hotel, to pound a few brews...

You think Lis is gonna make it through the night?

Even the beer is friendly here (note the "Aloha" at the top of the label)...

This is the lone bartender that was working our first night there. Look at that ass...it's an ass like that of a twelve year old boy...I could eat that ass with a spoon (NOT because it is reminiscent of a 12 year old boy)...

While looking at this girl's ass all night (in my defense, it was a late Monday night and there were no other asses to look at in the bar), I noticed that she had a tattoo similar to that of our friend Jen, so I had to get a close-up of it...

Here's the extra close close-up of the tat...I think that's a butterfly on the flower, forgot to ask her what it was...I'm not sure how far down the tat goes either...maybe one day we'll find out... ;)

For some reason, all around this bar, people find the need to staple their money onto the walls and ceilings...oh, that's a picture of some yen by the way...

Throughout the week, we visited numerous Clubs and Bars (of which we found the Bars to be MUCH better than the Clubs), including, but not limited to the following: we went to the Red Lion on Monday and Sunday nights, The Wave and Moose McGillyuddy's on Thursday, ZanZaBar Friday night, and Deja Vu Saturday...

04/30/02 Tuesday
I have no recollection of what we did on Tuesday, but, according to our credit card bills, we ate at the Chief's Hut for dinner ($1 Mai Tai's during happy hour) and Denny's (drunken binge)...

05/01/02 Wednesday
I have no recollection of what we did on Wednesday either. All I know is we didn't go out drinking, cause we had to dive the next day...I think maybe we did some snorkeling off Waikiki Beach...but, according to our credit card bills, we ate at Denny's again...

...so here are our underwater snorkeling pics...just got them scanned in finally...that's me, in the murky depths...we were pretty close to the shore, so there was much sediment kicked up...pics suck actually...gotta get the underwater case for my good camera...

...my mermaid wife, hunting for the elusive Loch Ness Monster...someone please tell her the Loch Ness Monster is in Loch Ness...in Scotland...I just don't have the heart to tell her...

...well, this may not be Loch Ness, but we did see some tropical fish...here is one bedding down inside of an old retaining wall...can't see it? no wonder, the camera SUCKS!!!

...how bout now...???

...alright, NOW you HAVE to see the damn thing...it almost bit my head off defending it's nest I got so close...

...caught a pic of a lil' puffer fish, pre-puffing...

...and a lil' zebra patterned lookin' fish...hey, what the hell do I know about saltwater tropical species? I'm a freshwater tropical guy...

The USS Missouri (left) and Arizona Memorial (right)...

The USS Bowfin SS-287, a WWII submarine, launched on December 7, 1942, she was nicknamed the "Pearl Harbor Avenger" and sank 44 enemy ships during the course of her nine extraordinary war patrols. (see, I paid attention to those little informational plaques all over the place...)

Requesting permission to come aboard Captain Benzaleski (I almost said "Captain FEDUS")...

Captain Benzaleski inspecting the holes...

I tried my hand at some artistic photography from the bow of the Bowfin, catching the flag in the foreground with the Missouri and Arizona in the background...

Second photo...

and the third...

A Port-bow angle shot of the Bowfin...

Then we climbed aboard the trolley that took us over to the Missouri...

These photos were taken while on the bridge over to the military base on Ford Island...

Boarding the Missouri...

My turn...

The USS Missouri BB63...what a big, f*cking ship...three football fields long...nicknamed " Mighty Mo' "...the Japanese signed the WWII "Instrument of Surrender" on her deck on September 2, 1945, ending the war...

...some big, f*cking guns...16" diameter and can fire at targets 23 miles away...

We didn't stay on the Missouri for long, cause the last trolley time was looming, so we planned to come back on our last day on O'ahu. Because of our failure to plan the day efficiently, we also didn't get to go on the Arizona Memorial. So we saw about 10% of the Missouri and 0% of the Arizona Memorial. It's ok though, cause (in the immortal words of Arnold), "I'll be back."

I took this shot of the Arizona Memorial from the Missouri's dock on the way out. It was as close as we got to it...

Here's where the Officers on the island get to frolic...Lis insisted I take these pictures...

...and this is where they get to live...lucky bastards...

And what better way to wind down a day of sightseeing than an All-you-can-eat Seafood Buffet! Lis grabbing some lobster claws...

...while THIS fat bastard, shell cracker in hand, ate the rest...

Jen, LOOK! I'm wearing your favorite shirt... ;)

05/04/02 Saturday
The next day, Lis stopped to pose for a pic on our way to Kobe, a Japanese steakhouse in Honolulu...I don't know what the hell else we did that day

Here's an unnecessarily close close-up self-portrait of ourselves, taken at Kobe...nice cheesy smile, Lis...nice receding hairline, Pat...

The food here was OFF THE HOOK! I even had some shrimp, which I'm allergic to (well, we think that's what I'm allergic to; every time I eat some, my right eye blows up like a balloon and itches like mad, but we also think that it may NOT be the shrimp, but the nasty shit inside it that doesn't always get cleaned out by most restaurants), and it did absolutely nothing to me at all! (that leaves something to be said about how good they clean the shrimp...) Anyway, enough of my hangups...

05/05/02 Sunday
On our way to Duke's for an early start (11:00 am) to our Cinco De Mayo celebration, we stopped to take a few pics of beautiful Waikiki Beach...

Lis, with Waikiki Beach as a backdrop...

No, I don't know what that mountain in the back is called (duh, now I do...it's called Diamond Head...), but later, on our way over to Maui I was able to take a pic of it...look for it in the Honeymoon - Kahana, Maui, HI Week Two pics...

...and surfer-dude posing...

...and once at Duke's, we smothered ourselves in Corona's and Mexican-style appetizers, like the Chicken Quesadillas pictured here...

...and the best, goddamned Nachos we've ever had, pictured here...

Looking svelte (in my new Hawaiian shirt, and yes, it's authentic Hawaiian, made in Hawaii, I checked...) at Cha Cha Cha's, a Caribe-Mexican food joint in the heart of Honolulu...

Lis, shooting another one of her patented cheese smiles while at Cha Cha Cha's...

After dinner, we were back at the Red Lion to continue our day long Cinco De Mayo celebration (note the Corona is Lis' hand), to play a game of darts, and to say good-bye to the best server in the world...

...Dawn! This little hottie took gooood care of us the first night (Tuesday) we were at the Lion and on the last night (Sunday) we were there...on Tuesday night she helped out with a list of clubs and bars to go to when, and how to get to them, along with a really good, ALL NUDE "Gentlemen's" Club, Deja Vu, where she also worked as a table server. We stopped by there to visit her one night and had a REALLY good time...the girls there were INCREDIBLE, some of the best we've seen and even the white girls could move! Actually, the white girls moved BEST! Go figure...

Here she's bringing us two more Coronas and a couple of shots of Tequila...and showing off her pierced tongue...

After the shots, Lis was lucky to hit the friggin' board...good thing it was one of those plastic dart boards...

Awww, look at the two cuties...

...awww, look at the two cuties and the fat bastard...a patron of the bar offered her photography skills on this one and almost dropped my camera...it came out terrible and I had to crop out 90% of the picture...moral of the story: don't let drunks take pictures with your $600 camera...

...instead take self-portraits!

Alright, alright, I shouldn't be calling Lis a fat bastard...what's wrong with me...?!?!

05/06/02 Monday
Ok, our last day on the island of O'ahu, we figure we're gonna go see the Arizona cause we missed it on Wednesday. Now, we have to be at the airport in time for our 4:50 pm flight to Maui, so we figure we can get to the airport by 3:30 and be safe. Well, the Cinco De Mayo/Tequila/Corona combo did a job on us and we didn't get up until around 10:00am, and got to the place the little boat that takes you out to the Arizona was at about 11:30am. There we discover there is about an hour and a half wait just to START the tour, which lasts an hour. Then, figure in the little boat ride back, wait for the bus back to the hotel, the ride back...forget it!

We'll just have to come back one day...next year! Moohahahaha!!!

Yes, that's me...we hung around the Arizona park area and took a few pics...

This is the plaque for the anchor below...

...the actual anchor from the USS Arizona...did you know it weighs 19,575 lbs.? You would if you read the plaque above...

So, the first week is over as we wait for our plane over to Maui at the Honolulu Airport...and here it is! Island Air flight 1558 to Kapalua, Maui...flights run every 30 minutes and cost us $166.46 after taxes...

There she is, getting loaded up with luggage and gasoline, and having maintenance checks performed...small friggin' plane, ain't it?

...and there's all our spiffy, brand-spanking new luggage on that luggage cart, all ready to be put on the plane...

Lis, all excited to be going to Maui...but NOT excited about taking an orange crate over there...see ya in Maui!

Please, for the sake of Conte Cult's survival!

(...all we're askin' for is a measly
buck or two you cheeeep bastard!)
